Instructor Courses
Applicants for the FI(A) license must complete a minimum of 30 hours of flight training on airplanes, including:
- 25 hours of flight training with an instructor.
- 5 hours of supervised flight time, which may be conducted with another person undergoing FI training.
Applicants for the FI(A) license who already hold a PPL(A) license must have a minimum of 150 hours as PIC, meet the theoretical knowledge requirements for the CPL(A) license, and have 15 hours of flight time as a pilot of the class or type of aircraft in which the training will be provided or undergo a competency assessment in the appropriate instructor category for that class or type of aircraft.
Applicants for the FI(A) license who already hold a CPL(A) license must have a minimum of 100 hours as PIC and have 15 hours of flight time as a pilot of the class or type of aircraft in which the training will be provided or undergo a competency assessment in the appropriate instructor category for that class or type of aircraft.
A candidate for Flight Instructor (FI(A)) rating must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a total flight time of 200 hours on airplanes, including at least 100 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) if holding at least a CPL(A) license, or 150 hours of total flight time as PIC if holding a PPL(A) license, and meet the theoretical knowledge requirements for the CPL(A) license.
- Possess a valid Class 1 Part-MED aviation medical certificate.
- Have a minimum of 30 hours of flight time on Single Engine Piston (SEP) aircraft, including at least 5 hours within the 6 months prior to the qualifying exam for FI(A) training.
- Hold a minimum of 10 hours of instrument flight training, including no more than 5 hours in a training device.
- Have a minimum of 20 hours of cross-country flight time as PIC, including a cross-country flight of not less than 540 km (300 NM) with two full-stop landings.
- Have 15 hours of flight time as a pilot of the class or type of aircraft in which the training will be provided or undergo a competency assessment in the appropriate instructor category for that class or type of aircraft.
